What’s New in vCenter Server 6

VMware has improved & changed many things after every version of vSphere the latest one is vSphere 6.0 with the launch of vSphere 6.0 VMware has added the full feature rich web client which was already there in version 5.5 but was not full feature rich with the vSphere 6 VMware added the many new features only in web client instead of normal vCenter client.VMware has also improved the vCSA.
When you install the vCenter server 6.0 first time you will notice that VMware has changed the many installation modules.

Supported Databases for Installation:-

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014
  • Oracle 11g
  • Oracle 12c

Default Database has been changed from Microsoft SQL Server Express to vPostgres embedded Database.

Platform Service Controller(PSC):-
PSC holds all the common services used by the vCenter Server.

This includes:-

  • vCenter SSO(Single Sign-on)
  • Licensing
  • VMware Certificate Authority

There are 2 Model’s of deployment available  in vCenter:-

1. vCenter with an embedded Platform Services Controller:-
Embedded Platform Service Controller & vCenter Server is deployed on the same server.It is suitable for the small virtual environment.

2. vCenter with an external Platform Services Controller
This helps to install the PSC & vCenter on different server.This can be helpful in the multiple vCenter environment. You first installs the PSC than proceed with installation for the vCenter. When using with the external PSC make sure that server is highly available.

vSphere Client:-
vSphere Client can now manage Virtual Hardware version 10 & 11.

Improved Web Client:-
VMware has made many changes & improvements in the vSphere Web Client to make it user friendly & features rich. Now the Web Client has functions very well & fast as compared to older Web Client. For better response speed use the Internet Explorer.
