What is vCenter Server ?

vCenter server is also known as the virtual center. vCenter Server provides the centralized management of vSphere Virtual Infrastructure. You can manage all your vSphere products such as ESXi & Virtual machines.

vCenter is the Windows Application which is provided by VMware which can only be used in the Windows Serve’s.For Using the Advance Enterprise features of VMware vSphere vCenter is required. You can use enterprise features from vCenter such as vMotion, vSphere HA(High Availability), VMware update Manager, vSphere Distributed Switches, vSphere DRS.
vCenter also provides the vSphere web client to access the features of vSphere directly from the Browser. The Latest version of vCenter is 6.
VMware has also launched the vCSA (vCenter Server Appliance) which is based on the Linux Platform & you can directly deploy it as a Virtual Machine.

Processor:-           Intel or AMD 64bit Processor with 2 or more logical core’s with speed of 2GHz.
OS(64Bit):-          Windows Server 2008 R2 or Later (Check VMware Compatibility Guide for More Detail.)
Memory:-             8GB is Minimum (For Large deployment more Memory will be required).Storage:- Minimum 5GB or disk space (For Large deployment more Storage will be required)
Database:-           64Bit DSN will be required
Postgre-SQL(Embedded)
Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle (Check VMWare Guide For More Compatibility)
Network Speed:- 1Gbps
