VUM helps to patch & upgrade the ESXi hosts, virtual appliances & VMware Tools. VUM is an recommended tool from VMware patch or upgrade the vSphere Infra. For using vSphere Update Manager first we need to install the vSphere Update Manager in any of the windows server.

Below is the screenshot of Error:

This error comes when the Update Manager unable to communicate with vCenter Server properly. I have got this error just after installing Update Manager.

Solution for this is to verify & change the vCenter Server IP or Hostname in Update Manager configuration. Below are the steps by which you can do that.

Step 1:
Stop the Update Manager service.
By going into Start > Run > VMware vSphere Update Manager Service > Right click Stop Service.

Step 2:
Navigate to Update Manager installation directory.
This are the default path if you have done the installation with default folders.

 32-bit Windows Server: C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager
 64-bit Windows Server: C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager

Find for the file “vci-integrity.xml”

Step 3:
Open the file with Notepad or any other text editor tool.
Find for the value “<vpxdLocation>####</vpxdLocation>”
You will see there your vCenter IP Address is listed. If it is different then change with the vCenter Server IP address as shown below:

Step 4:
That’s it save the file.
Start the Update Manager Service.
Now you can see that your error has gone.
