vRA Part-2: How to Install & Configure vRealize Automation Appliance Step by Step

In this second series of the deployment & configuration of vRealize Automation we will see the on the further deployment & configuration tasks which are required to deploy the vRealize Automation in your environment. In this post we will see in depth each & every tasks & configuration you need to perform after deploying the vRA appliance in your environment.

We have successfully deployed the vRealize Automation appliance deployment. Now we will see on configuration of the vRealize Automation appliance.

How to deploy vRealize Automation appliance step by step ?

Step 1:
Power On the appliance. Once the appliance is powered on successfully, you will get below screen.

Step 2:
You need to access the appliance using the URL provided above.

https://vRA IP or Hostname:5480

Login using the root credentials.

Step 3:
vRealize Automation Installation wizard will start here. Click Next to continue.

Step 4:
Read & accept the license agreement. click Next to continue.

Step 5 :
You can choose the deployment type based on your requirement. If you are deploying in production environment then you must go for Enterprise deployment.
Select the deployment type & choose Install Infrastructure as a service.
Click Next to continue.

Step 6:
Here you need to configure the Time sync & discover the IaaS hosts.
So if you have already installed IaaS agent into the IaaS server than vRA will automatically show the discovered hosts.

How to prepare IaaS server for vRA Installation ?

Step 7:
You can see that IaaS host is discovered after installing IaaS agent. click Next to continue.

Step 8:
Prerequisite checker will check all the perquisites in the IaaS server & will show the issues if any present.
To check for prerequisites click Run.

Step 9:
As you can see we are having the below errors, this are common issues. No need to worry about it, just click Fix so that vRA installer will fix those issues directly.

It may take time to fix the issues. Once all the issues are fixed you will see status as OK.

Step 10:
As you can see that all of the issues has been fixed. click Next to continue.

Step 11:
Provide the FQDN for the vRA appliance & click Next to continue.

Step 12:
Set the password for the default admin account of the vRA appliance which will be required for the first login after deployment. click Next to continue.

Step 13:
Provide the details of IaaS host such as Web address, username, password & set the password for database security. click Next to continue.

Step 14:
Provide the details of SQL Server for database creation as vRA will use the database for its configuration & inventory.  Click Next to continue.

Step 15:
Specify the information for DEM, if you are using the additional DEM for availability then you need to add those here otherwise you can go with the default single instance & click Next.

Step 16:
Agent installation for the vRA will be performed in the IaaS server. We are using vSphere environment so we are going with the default agent vCenter. If you want to go for high availability then you must have another IaaS server for agent availability. Make sure to remember the Agent name as it will require later for configuration purpose.
Click Next to continue.

Step 17:
We need to generate and save self signed certificate.
If you want to go for your own SSL certificate then you can generate signing request.
Provide the details & click Save generated certificate to generate & save the self signed certificate.

Step 18:
As you can see that certificate is generated, click Next to continue.

Step 19:
We will require another web certificate.
If you want to use your own SSL then you can generate signing request or if you want to go for the self signed certificate provide the details & click Save generated certificate. So your Self signed certificate will be generated.

Step 20:
You can see that self signed certificate is generated. click Next to continue.

Step 21:
Now we have to validate all the configuration so click on Validate.
It may take some time to complete the validation process.

Step 22:
Once the validation is completed successfully you will see all the validation status as succeeded.
Click Next to continue.

Step 23:
Now we have to take the snapshot of the vRA appliance so that if installation fails we can continue from this point. So no need to configure all the details again.
Click Next to continue.

Step 24:
Click Install to start the installation process.

Step 25:
Installation may take hour or more depending on your environment. Once the installation is completed you will see all the command status is succeeded.
You can click Next to continue.

Step 26:
Next step is to assign license to the vRealize Automation appliance.
Enter the license & click submit so license will be verified you will see the details of license.
Click Next to continue.

Step 27:
This is optional step where you can join VMware customer experience program.
Click Next to continue.

Step 28:
You can configure some Post Installation options here.
You can configure Initial content or you can migrate from existing environment.
Or you can select continue to finish the installation wizard.
Click Next to continue.

Step 29:
You can see that Installation & configuration of vRealize Automation appliance is completed successfully. you can click Finish to exit the wizard.

Step 30:
Now you can open vRA by accessing vRA hostname or IP address in the browser.
Click vRealize Automation console to access the vRA console & login to vRA.

Now you can login to vRA using the admin account.

That’s it we have successfully deployed the vRealize Automation appliance, vRA takes few hours to complete the whole installation & configuration. If your all the configurations are proper so you will not face any issues in installation process.
