End user can request for the catalog items which they are entitled to. When they login to vRA portal they will see the items which are available to them & they can request them. In this post we will see on How to Request for catalog item as end user in vRA & how to complete process of approval & provisioning will work.
Once you have created blueprints, configured catalog items & configured the entitlements successfully than user will see those catalog items in his portal so they can request for the catalog items which they require for their work. If there is any approval policy is created & configured so approver must approve the request then only the catalog item will be provisioned.
So let’s see How an end user can request the catalog items in vRealize Automation.
Login as end user into vRA Portal.
Here you will see that catalog items for which the user is entitled to.
So click on the Request for the item which you want to provision.
Here you can provide the description & reason for the request.
You can also specify the lease days for how many days machine should be available.
Provide the deployments how many machine you want to provision.
Click below on the item so you can make configuration which is available such as Memory , CPU & Storage.
Click on Submit button to submit the request.
You can see that request is submitted successfully but it is pending for approval.
Now you can ask the Approver to approve your request.
Login as the approver.
Approver will see the request in his Inbox.
Click on the request to check for the details of the request.
Here approver will see the details of the request.
Approver can provide the justification & approve or reject the request.
Click on Approve to approve the request.
Now you can see that request is approved & provisioning is started.
Click in the current deployment to see it’s status.
Here you can view the detailed status of the provisioning.
Provisioning may take time based on your environment.
Once the provisioning is successful you can see that all of the tasks has been completed:
Now you can view the items which are provisioned by you in the deployments tab.
Here you can view it’s details & manage the items by clicking on Action.
That’s it, Using this way end user can request the catalog items & approver must approve the request to be provisioned.
This is the LAB environment so we have completed is easily but in the production environment it may take time for the approval & all the process will be governed. So that no requests can be falsely provisioned.
