Site Recovery Manager Appliance Overview
In the earlier post we have seen on how to deploy the site recovery manager appliance. In this post we will take the look at the new appliance & will see on how you can configure & manage different options in the appliance.
SRM appliance is the new way to deploying site recovery manager without windows server dependency. you can easily configure & manage the appliance through web browser. You can monitor disk usage, start or stop services, perform updates & certificate management as well.
How to Deploy Site Recovery Manager Appliance Step by Step ?
So let’s see what are the options you will get in the appliance & how to access & manage them:
To access the site recovery manager appliance you will have to open the browser provide the IP address or hostname of the appliance & port 5480. you can see below example on how to access :
https://192.168.0.153:5480
You have to login using the admin user & the password which you have set during appliance deployment.
This is the first screen summary page you will see every time you will access the SRM Appliance:
Summary Page displays the details about the appliance such as version & build. You will also see the configured site details here such as site name, PSC, vCenter server. you can reconfigure the site or unregister the site from here directly.
It is already showing registered site because we have already configure the site but if you have not configured any site yet then those details won’t be available.
Monitor Disks:
In monitor disks section you will see attached disks to the appliance their partition name, description and most important disk utilization so you can easily monitor the disk utilization directly from here.
Access:
Access section will show you the details about the SSH access, Certificate & you can change admin user & embedded database password from here easily.
Networking:
Networking page allows you to view and manage the networking of the appliance. you can also edit the networking configuration from here.
Time:
Time section will show you the Time zone & Time synchronization of the appliance. If you want to change the Time zone or time synchronization settings so you can easily change it from here.
Services:
Services is the most critical part of any solution. In the Services page you will see the list of services and their status. You can even start , stop & restart the services directly from here so you don’t need to manually login to appliance to start or stop any services.
Update:
As the name says Update this page will show you the current version of your appliance and the available updates if any available. You can configure online repository so in future you will see the updates here & you can directly perform updates to the appliance. Or other option is you can map the latest appliance ISO you have downloaded & you will see the updates available here.
Syslog Forwarding:
Every organization uses syslog servers to manage & maintain the logs for troubleshooting purpose. In this appliance as well you can forward appliance logs to upto 3 remote syslog servers. you can configure your remote syslog server here.
Storage Replication Adapters:
Site Recovery Manager requires the replication to orchestrate the disaster recovery so either you can use the third party storage replication adapters or you can use the vSphere replication to replicate the individual VMs.
If you want to use the Storage replication adapters then you can configure it from here.
As you have seen that new site recovery manager appliance deployment is very simple & the appliance UI is intuitive where you can easily configure & manage the SRM appliance.
