Patch Setup is option where you can configure Patch Download sources or let’s say you can add New Patch download sources. You can also configure Proxy Settings where you don’t have direct internet connectivity to the vCenter Server so you can use Proxy Servers. In this post we will look at the Patch Setup Options and how you can configure each of them.
Patch Setup allows you to add the New Download sources other then default VMware Official Patch Download source, If you have setup UMDS so you can also configure it here. There are cases where we don’t provide internet connectivity to the vCenter Server so to download the patches you can use your Internal Proxy Server and configure it here.
So to access the Patch Setup go to Update Manager > Settings > Expand Administration Settings.
Select Patch Setup.
Here you can see the existing Patch Download sources, Official VMware Download source comes by default in the Update Manager.
If you want to add another source click on New.
Here you can specify URL of the Third Party Patch Download sources other then VMware Officials.
Click on Save to close the wizard.
Change Download Source:
You can also change the Download source if you have your Update Manager Download Service configured in your environment.
So to change the Download Source click on “Change Download Source”.
Here you can specify the UMDS shared repository URL from where patches will be downloaded in Update Manager.
Proxy Settings are useful when you don’t have direct internet connectivity to the vCenter Server so you can use Proxy Server to download the Patches.
To configure Proxy Settings scroll down and Click on Edit as shown.
Here you can configure Proxy Settings such as Proxy Server and Port, If you have authentication then you can also provide here by Username and Password.

As we have seen above that if you have your own patch repository so how you can easily configure it into Update Manager, If you have UMDS then how you can configure it here.
If you don’t have Internet connectivity to the vCenter Server then how you can configure Proxy Settings to download Patches through Proxy Server.
