How to restore VM using VDP

VMware VDP is an vSphere Data Protection which an Backup & Recovery solution from VMware for your vSphere infrastructure. VDP is fully integrated with VMware vCenter Server and VMware vSphere Web Client. VDP is powered by an EMC Avamar. VDP provides agentless, image-level virtual-machine backups to disk. It also provides application-aware protection for business-critical Microsoft applications (such as Exchange, SQL Server and SharePoint) along with WAN-efficient, encrypted backup data replication.

In our previous post we have worked on How to backup VM using vSphere Data Protection step by step. So in this post we will see on how to restore a VM which is backed up using the VDP Appliance.

Let’s see how to restore VM using VDP:

Step 1:
Login to vSphere web client. Choose the VDP plugin to access the VDP.
Here you will see an option to connect to VDP Appliance. So choose the VDP Appliance & click Connect.
You will see an getting started page. click on Restore Tab as shown.
Here you will see the list of Backups which has been taken.
Choose the backup which you want to restore.

Step 2:
You will see the Backed up file details if you have multiple backups you can see it here.
Select the file which you want to restore & click on Restore option.

Step 3:
Select the Backup which you want to restore.
Click Next.

Step 4:
Configure the restore options according on your requirement.
Click Next.

Step 5:
Review the selections.
Click Finish to start the restore process.

It will take few minutes to restore based on the size of the restore file. You can check the task details in the recent tasks.

Once the restore is completed successfully. You can check and verify the files. That’s it you have successfully restored the VM using VDP.
