How to Migrate Windows vCenter Server 6.5 to VCSA 7 Step by Step

VMware has recently announced the newer version of vCenter Server 7 which included many new features, fixes & enhancements. vCenter Server 7 completely removed the Platform service controller functionality, Flash client as well as Windows based vCenter server. In this post we will see on how we can migrate our windows server based vCenter Server 6.5 to vCenter Server appliance 6.7.

VMware has deprecated the windows based vCenter Server so it’s important to migrate on the vCenter Server appliance so that you get all the features & support.

Key features of vSphere 7:

  1. vSphere with Kubernetes
  2. Improved DRS
  3. Assignable Hardware
  4. vSphere Lifecycle manager
  5. Refactored vMotion
  6. Intrinsic Security

In this post we are using below versions of vCenter server 6.5 & vCenter server 7. It is recommended to check for supported upgrade paths before you go for upgrade so you can avoid any issues later.

Points to remember before starting the migration:
