How to Install VCSA 6.7 in VMware Workstation Step by Step

In this post we will see on how you can easily install vCenter Server Appliance on VMware Workstation or let’s say how to deploy VCSA on VMware workstation. vCenter Server Appliance is used to manage the vSphere infra using centralized management.

In normal scenarios vCenter server appliance normally deployed as a vm on esxi host so to provide availability as vCenter server is very critical part of vSphere Infra. but if you are just testing in your lab then it is possible to deploy vcsa directly on to vmware workstation.

Before going for Installation make sure you download the VCSA ISO & extract it.

Installation steps are quite simple as you would install on ESXi host, So let’s see how to install vCenter Server Appliance on VMware Workstation Step by Step.

Step 1:
Open the extracted VCSA directory & go to vcsa folder

Step 2:
Here you can see vCenter Server OVF Appliance. Right click on Appliance and open using VMware Workstation.

Step 3:
Accept the license agreement & click Next.

Step 4:
Provide the Name & Location for vCenter Server Appliance. Click Next.

Step 5:
Choose the deployment type & click Next.

Step 6:
Provide the networking details for vCenter Server Appliance.

Step 7:
Select SSO Configuration & provide the SSO password for the vCenter Server Appliance.

Step 8:
Select system configuration here you need to set the Root password for the appliance.
You can also configure other settings for upgrade & other things.
Click Import to deploy the vCenter Server appliance on vmware workstation.

Step 9:
As you can see the deployment is started & it will take few minutes to complete.
You can see the console of the VCSA VM.
Here you will see the hostname & IP Address of the vCenter Server.

Step 10:
We are still not done yet, we have to do some additional configuration.
Go to browser & access the Appliance management of vCenter Server using port 5480.
For example:

https://vcsa.masteringvmware.com:5480

you will see Getting started page. Click on Setup to continue.

Step 11:
As you can see that Stage 1 is completed we are now in stage 2 configuration part.
Click Next to continue.

Step 12:
Review the Appliance configuration.
Scroll down you need to configure Time Sync & SSH access. Click Next.

Step 13:
Create SSO domain for the vCenter Server.
Provide domain name, username is default administrator & set the password.
Click Next.

Step 14:
If you want you can join vmware customer experience program & click Next.

Step 15:
Review the configuration & click Finish to complete the vCenter configuration.

Step 16:
You will get warning so click OK to continue.

Step 17:
Configuration will take few minutes to complete, once the appliance is configured you will get success message.
You can close the wizard.

Now you can access the deployed vCenter Server appliance using the browser.

That’s how simple it is to deploy vCenter Server Appliance in the vmware workstation. If you are testing in the LAB then you can deploy VCSA on vmware workstation easily using above steps.
