In the previous post, we learned about What is VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics & its functionalities. In short VMware Skyline Health Diagnostics is a self-service diagnostics platform. It helps to detect and provide remediation to issues in the vSphere & associated products. In this post, we will see How to Deploy VMware Skyline Appliance Step by Step.
VMware Skyline Appliance comes in an OVA Format which you can easily deploy using the deploy OVA feature in vCenter Server. Before deploying you must know the system requirements of VMware Skyline Appliance. Below you can see the system requirements:
Software Requirement:
- vCenter Server 6.5 or later versions.
Hardware Requirement:
- CPU: 4vCPUs
- RAM: 16GB RAM
- Storage: 250GB of disk storage
Network Requirement:
- IP Type: Static or DHCP IPv4
- Network Ports: 22, 443
Make sure that your VMware Skyline has connectivity to your vSphere Infrastructure & other products such as VCF for detection & analysis.

So let’s see how to Deploy VMware Skyline Appliance:
Step 1:
Download VMware Skyline Appliance OVA file from VMware Portal.
Step 2:
Choose the Cluster where you want to deploy VMware Skyline Appliance & select Deploy OVF Template.
Step 3:
Deploy OVF Template wizard will start here.
Select Local File.
Click Upload Files & choose the downloaded VMware Skyline Appliance OVA file.
Click Next to continue.
Step 4:
Provide the Name for Virtual Machine.
Select the location for the appliance.
Click Next to continue.
Step 5:
Select the host or cluster where you want to deploy the appliance.
Click Next to continue.
Step 6:
You will get the Appliance details.
Click Next to continue.
Step 7:
Read & accept the license agreement for VMware Skyline Appliance.
Click Next to continue.
Step 8:
Select the storage for the appliance deployment.
You can select single datastore or datastore cluster whichever you have.
Click Next to continue.
Step 9:
Select the network for the VMware Skyline Appliance.
This network will be used by appliance to connect to the vSphere & Internet.
Click Next to continue.
Step 10:
Here you have to setup credentials for the root & shd-admin accounts of Appliance.
Configure the networking for the appliance.
Click Next to continue.
Step 11:
Review all the configuration you have done to deploy VMware Skyline Appliance.
Click Finish to start deployment.
Now you will see that Appliance is getting deployed, It may take time based on your environment.
Using this way you can easily Deploy VMware Skyline Appliance in your vSphere Environment. Once appliance is deployed next step is to configure & connect with vCenter. That we will see in the next posts.
Now with the VMware Skyline in your vSphere you can detect the issues & problems in your environment. It will help you to make your VMware environment compliant & up to date.
Note: In this post we have used VMware Skyline Appliance version 3.5.2. So in future based on different version system requirements & process may change.
