vRealize Operations Manager comes with the Dashboard feature which provides complete information about your vSphere Infra. There are plenty of predefined dashboards are available which you can use to view information but if you want to create your dashboard then also that option is available. Create and manage dashboard is dependent on the license you are using. So make sure you check for the license editions before.
In this post we will see on how to create dashboard step by step. We will be creating Inventory dashboard which will display inventory of the ESXi Hosts.
So let’s see How to create Dashboards:
Login to vRealize Operations Manager.
Go to Dashboards tab.
Click Actions and select Create Dashboard.
You will see dashboard creation wizard.
First Provide the Name for the Dashboard, So you can identify dashboard easily.
Widgets are the panes on your dashboards. They show information about attributes, resources, applications, or the overall processes in your environment. There are various widgets available such as List, Summary, Trend, Distribution etc.
Now we have to add Widgets to the Dashboards.
In the Bottom Section you can see available widgets so select and Drag Widgets to the middle pane.
Here we are creating Inventory so we have selected List Widget.
It is the configuration of the widget where we have to specify and configure widget to show proper data which required.
First Provide Name for the Widget.
Then we can specify Refresh content and Interval, If you have widget which is dynamic then you can configure it here.
Then we have to specify Provider , Is it self provider or it is dependent on another widget.
In our case we are just listing the inventory values so we are selecting Self Provider to On.
Select the Objects on which widget should collect and display the data on. Here we have selected complete datacenter but you can select datacenter, cluster etc based on your requirements.
A view presents collected information for an object in a certain way depending on the view type.
In Views section you will get all the available views which can be configured for widgets. We are creating dashboard for ESXi Inventory so we have selected ESXi Configuration view. You can select view based on your requirements.
Click Save to save the widget.
Here you can see that widget is being displayed with the values of ESXi Configuration.
Click Save to create dashboard.
Now you can select the dashboard you have created and it will be displayed :
That’s it, Using this way you can easily create your own custom dashboard in vROPS. Custom dashboards are helpful when you have specific requirements. This was just basic steps to create dashboard so that anyone who is new can create dashboard easily but if you want you can configure many advanced settings in dashboard configuration.
