How to Configure Patch Downloads in VMware Update Manager

In the last post we learned about what is Update Manager and overview of it. As you already know now why we use Update Manager and why it is so beneficial. In this post we will see on How you can configure Patch Downloads in VMware Update Manager so you don’t have to manually download the patches every time.

Patch Downloads is very nice feature of Update Manager where you can configure Automatic Patch downloads based on the schedule so when you are going for an upgrade you don’t have to download the patches manually or wait for downloads to complete.

So let’s see How to Configure Patch Downloads in Update Manager:

To configure Patch Download go to Update Manager > Settings > Expand Administration Settings.
Select Patch Downloads.

As you can see here you can manually Download Patches by clicking on Download Now or you can also Upload Patches from File.
We can see that we don’t have any Automatic Download Schedule configured so to schedule patch download click on the Edit button as shown.

Here you can configure Automatic Patch Downloads schedule which in Every days and starting at based on your requirement you can set.
You can Specify Task Name and Description for the reference.
You can also configure Notification Email Alert by just providing the Email ID where you want to get notified when the Task is completed.
Click on SAVE to save and exit the wizard.

As you can see below that we have successfully configured Patch Downloads Schedule so Update Manager will automatically download patches on the schedule and once download is completed we will be notified by Email.

Automatic Patch Downloads is very useful so you don’t have to manually download the patches when they are available , Here your Patches will be automatically downloaded once they are released.
