How to configure download schedule for patch downloads in VUM

VUM is also referred as vSphere Update Manager which is an best tool from VMware for patching or upgrading the ESXi hosts directly. VMware recommends of using the VUM for patching or upgrading the ESXi hosts. In our previous post we have seen on how to patch ESXi hosts using VUM.

In this post we will see on how to configure schedule for downloading the patches or upgrades in VUM. It is always recommended way to configure schedule so that you can avoid the downloading in production hours & you can download patches in weekends or the night at the time when the network usage is very less. VUM provides the multiple configurations for download scheduling we will see below on how you can easily configure the schedule for downloading patches.

Let’s configure Download schedule in VUM:

Step 1:
Login to vSphere web client.
Go to Update Manager.
Select the Update Manager > Manage Tab > Settings.
Choose Download Schedule & click Edit to edit the download schedule.


Step 2:
Check the box Enable scheduled task.
Click Next.


Step 3:
Specify the Scheduling options such as Task name, Description, Provide Email to get notified.
Click on Change button in Configured Scheduler to configure the schedule.


Here you can configure the Download Schedule according to your requirements.
Click OK to save.


Click Next to continue.

Step 4:
Review all the selection.
Click Finish to save.



That’s it we have successfully configured the Downloading schedule for patch download. after clicking finish you can see download schedule is enabled.



That’s how you can easily configure the patch download schedule in VUM. It is always recommended schedule the downloads to avoid network outage in production hours.
