How to Add vSAN Witness Host in vCenter Server Step by Step

In the previous post we have deployed the vSAN Witness Appliance successfully, In this post we will see on How to add vSAN Witness Appliance into vCenter Server. Process of adding vSAN Witness host is very simple like adding ESXi host only.

After deploying vSAN Witness appliance it is mandatory to add it to vCenter Server so that you can use it for 2 Node vSAN Cluster or vSAN Stretched Cluster configuration. If you don’t add vSAN Witness to vCenter you will not be able to select the witness at the time of configuration of 2 node vSAN or Stretched Cluster.

So let’s see How to Add vSAN Witness Appliance into vCenter Server:

Step 1:
Select the datacenter & right click on it.
Select Add Host.
Add host wizard will open.
Provide the Hostname or IP address of the vSAN Witness Appliance.
Click Next.

Step 2:
Provide vSAN Witness Host credentials. Click Next.

Step 3:
Review host summary & click Next.

Step 4:
Select the License for vSAN Witness Appliance. Click Next.

Step 5:
Specify lockdown mode for vSAN Witness host. Click Next.

Step 6:
Select the VM Location for vSAN Witness Host.
Click Next.

Step 7:
Review the configuration & click Finish to add vSAN Witness host to vCenter Server.

Once you click Finish you can see that vSAN Witness host is added into vCenter Server. You can see that vSAN Witness host icon is also little bit darker so you can easily identify it.

That’s it, Using this way you can easily add vSAN Witness host into your vCenter Server step by step. vSAN Witness host is used in 2 node vSAN Cluster configuration & vSAN Stretched Cluster configuration.
