ESXi 6 Networking

ESXi is the Hypervisor provided by the VMware. ESXi is used to virtualize the physical hardware servers. ESXi is most widely used Hypervisor to virtualize the Datacenter’s. In this post we will see about Networking in ESXi Server.

When first you login to your ESXi Server you will see 4 Networking Options:

We will discuss one by one option in detail below.

A. Configure Management Network:

Configure Management Network helps you to setup network for your ESXi Server. When you click on Configure Management Network you will get the Networking Configurations Options.

  1. Network Adapters:- It shows the available Physical Networking Adapters in the server.
  2. VLAN:- This Option is Optional if you have VLAN Networking in your environment you can set the Specific VLAN ID here.
  3.  IPv4 Configuration:- You can use the Dynamic IPv4 Configuration of you Can Set the IPv4 Configuration by providing the IPv4 Address, Subnet Mast, Gateway.
  4.  IPv6 Configuration:- Here you can use either DHCPv6 for Dynamic Network Configuration or you can set the static configuration by providing the Static Address & Default Gateway or you can disable the IPv6.
  5. DNS Configuration:- You can obtain DNS Server automatically or you can set the DNS Server Manually by providing the primary DNS Server, Alternate DNS Server & Hostname.
  6. Custom DNS Suffixes:- You can provide DNS Suffix if you have custom DNS Suffixes in your environment.

B. Restart Management Network:
You can Restart the whole Management Network of ESXi By this Option. You can use this option at the time of network connectivity issues with ESXi.

C. Test Management Network:
You can Test the Configured Network Settings by this option.
It will check the connectivity of ESXi Network with the Gateway,DNS.
You will come to know if there is any problem in configured network by just testing the Management Network.

D. Network Restore Option:
This will help you to Restore whole ESXi Network Restore.
Be careful while using it as it will restore all the settings to default.
