Altaro VM Backup is a lightweight backup application for deployments of Hyper-V and VMware. It’s a very powerful solution that caters to small and mid-market businesses by making the installation easy to set up and configure – it literally will take around 15 minutes to get started with Altaro VM Backup! This simplicity carries over in design, where the user-interface is clean and easy to use, avoids clutter and complex UX – it’s straightforward to get started, and presents you with configuration options that are just a few clicks away.
The recently updated version 7 of Altaro VM Backup also introduces some great new features:
- Augmented Inline Deduplication
- Boot VM from Backup
- New look to the Altaro Offsite Server
- Faster Compression Algorithms
Augmented Inline Deduplication
This technology brings best in class storage savings, and huge improvements compared to other vendors when creating the smallest backup size. It runs inline deduplication in real-time for every VM backup, and does not make use of post-processing, and does not need VMs to be grouped.
Since there is much less data to transfer you can expect improvements in backup and restore speeds, and an increase in efficiency the more VM backups are added – resulting in less storage requirements for your deployment.
Faster Compression Algorithms
Together with Augmented Inline Deduplication, Altaro VM Backup v7 has another feature up its sleeve – faster compression algorithms. In v7 Altaro uses QuickLZ compression, that leverages CPU multithreading and arithmetic capabilities, making for speedy backups and restores all the while reducing CPU requirements!
Boot VM from Backup
Altaro VM Backup v7 brings back a highly requested feature – Boot from Backup location. Once the VM gets booted, it’s restored in the background with all changes by users during the recovery window being retained. This process takes seconds and users get access to the VM right away. System administrators will notice significantly less downtime.
