When you install Site Recovery Manager you have to do Inventory Mappings from DC site to DR site. Inventory Mappings includes Network Mappings, Folder Mappings, Resource Mappings, Storage Policy Mappings. All of the Mappings require for proper management and configuration of virtual machine at DR Site.
Network Mappings is very important to provide the Network connectivity to virtual machines. In Network Mapping we specify the network to be mapped from Protected site(DC site) to Recovery site(DR Site). So that if you do recovery of the virtual machine , your virtual machines will get access to the network. Network Mappings also configure test networks for the testing purpose at DR Site. It means when you do test recovery isolated network will be created automatically to test the virtual machine recovery at Recovery site.
In this post we will see on How to configure Network Mappings in Site Recovery Manager Step by Step:
Login to vSphere Web Client.
Go to Site Recovery Manager.
Expand the Configure section.
Select Network Mappings.
Click New to create Network Mapping.
Specify the creation mode Automatically or Manual.
We will go for Manual mode to see all the available options.
Click “Prepare mappings manually.”
Select the Network you use at Protected site and you want to use at Recovery site.
Click Add Mappings button.
As you can see that Mapping is listed below.
If you have multiple Networks you can do multiple mappings also. But make sure you have Network created and configured at Recovery site.
Configure Reverse mappings.
Reverse mapping is useful when you recover virtual machine at Protected site from Recovery site.
Just check the box to select Reverse Mappings.
Configure Test Networks.
Test Networks are automatically created while running tests and test networks are isolated networks.
Select the isolated network for Recovery site.
Review the Mappings you have configured.
Click Finish to create Network Mappings.
As you can see that your Mapping is created successfully and it is listed below.
You can create additional Network Mapping and Edit or delete the existing mapping also.
That’s it we have successfully created Network Mappings for Recovery site. So now when you Recovery virtual machines your VM’s will use the specified Network for connectivity. Make sure you select Proper Network for the Mapping if any wrong network is selected then you will not get the network connectivity after Recovery of the virtual machines.
In the Next post we will see on How to create Folder Mappings.
