Every organization uses Active directory for the Authentication & Permission purpose for their servers as well as desktops . Active Directory is more useful because once you configure it & add the users then you only have to integrate AD with other solutions or products which supports AD Integration. vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 supports the Active Directory Authentication. So that you don’t need to create the multiple users in VCSA 6.5. You can directly give permissions to the users from VCSA once joined to the Domain.
In this post we will see on how you can join vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 into Active Directory Domain so that after joining domain we can configure the authentication using Active Directory.
Let’s see how to Join vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 to the Active Directory Domain Step by Step.
Login to vSphere Web Client.
Go to Administration.
Choose “System Configuration.”
First choose the Nodes as shown.
Choose the Node in the Nodes list. Node is your vCenter Server Appliance.
Click on Manage Tab.
Under settings choose Active Directory.
Click on Join button.
Provide your Active Directory Domain Details.
Specify the Domain Name, Organization Unit.
Provide the Domain Admin username & Password.
Click OK to save.
As you can see that We have to reboot the node to apply the changes.
Reboot the vCenter Server Appliance manually. Once the VCSA 6.5 starts login to vSphere Web client & go to same page where you will see that your Domain is listed.
Now your vCenter Server Appliance is successfully joined to Active Directory Domain.
