How to create iSCSI Target Server in Windows Server – Part 2

If you are using the VMware LAB at home then you can use the windows server as the iSCSI Storage. Once you create & configure storage in windows server you can easily use it with your VMware lab. So to know on how create & configure the iSCSI Storage in Windows server check out below post.

Creating & Configuring ISCSi Target Server in Windows Server 2012 R2:-

Step 1:
Logon to your Windows Server.Open the Server Manager.
Choose the option from right pane: “File and Storage Services”.

Step 2:

Choose the option iSCSI
Click on the Link “To create an iSCSI virtual disk, start the New iSCSI Virtual Disk Wizard”.

Step 3:

Here new iSCSI Wizard will open.
Choose your server & the partition you have created.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 4:

Provide the Name & Description for iSCSI Virtual Disk.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 5:

Here you have to specify the iSCSI Virtual disk size.
Specify according to your requirement.
There are 3 options Fixed Size, Dynamically expanding, Differencing.
But i will go with Dynamically expanding as it will provide the better use of storage.
You can choose according to your requirements.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 6:

We are creating the new disk so choose New iSCSI Target.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 7:

Here you have to provide the Name & Description for Target.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 8:
Here we will have to provide the Access Servers.
Click Add below to add the new iSCSI initiators.
You will get the Add initiator ID Window.
Choose the Third Option.
Click on the Drop Down box & choose the IP Address & provide the IP address which will help this target server to get connectivity with vSphere Datastores.
Click OK to save & close.

Step 9:

Here in my testing I am using 2 ESXi hosts so i have added 4 IP address for 2 each.
So you can choose according to your requirements.
Click Next to continue.

Step 10:

Here you can provide additional Authentication for iSCSI Target.
Or you can also leave it blank.
Click Next to proceed.

Step 11:

Check all the summary about the configurations & click Create to create the iSCSI Target & it will take some time to install & it will show the status of each task running.

As you can see all the Tasks completed successfully.

After successful installation you will see the iSCSI Target Server is created.

That’s it you have successfully configured the iSCSI Target Storage in Windows server 2012. Now you can use this storage in vSphere.
