How to add Additional Uplink to vSwitch ?

Uplinks are the Physical Adapter on the ESXi host which provides the connectivity to the outside Physical Network . It is also referred as vmnic. You can add maximum 32 uplinks to a single vSwitch. So in this post i will show you how to add additional Uplink to vSwitch.

Adding Uplinks in vSwitch :-

Step 1:
Login to vSphere Web Client.

Step 2:
Choose the Hosts & Clusters from the Home Screen.

Step 3:
Choose the vSwitch on which you want to add Uplink.
Choose Following as shown:-
ESXi Host > Manage > Networking > Virtual Switches.
Here you will find your vSwitch.
Click on the icon shown with Number 5 to add Uplink.

Step 4:
Networking Wizard will open.
Here you will see the Active adapter which are already connected to vSwitch.
Choose the Green Plus icon to add new.

Step 5:
You will get the Window where you can see all the Network Adapter available.
Choose the Network Adapter which is correct & click OK to add.

Step 6:
You will see that your Adapter is added in the Active Adapter list.
Here you can also delete the network adapter by clicking on red cross mark.
you can also assign adapter to standby or unused adapter by choosing the up & down button.
Click OK to add.

That’s it you have successfully added Network adapter to vSwitch.
You can see the Network Adapter by choosing vSwitch in the Physical Adapter.

Using this way you can add multiple Uplinks into vSwitch. which will help you in configuring nic teaming & load balancing on vSwitch.
